Greeting from Karla
Hi! My name is Karla. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I teach special education, yoga, and mindfulness in the Bay Area and beyond.
I first sought out a yoga teacher training with the intention of deepening my personal practice, but it wasn’t long before I knew that I couldn’t keep the teachings to myself. I began to teach yoga and mindfulness so that others could experience the grace of the practices that continue to guide me back to presence, acceptance, compassion and freedom. I consider myself to be a lifelong student and it is my greatest honor to share the tools that my teachers and guides have so generously shared with me.
My goal is to integrate my passion for yoga, mindfulness, and education to offer accessible, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive practices for children, teens, and adults. I truly believe that yoga and mindfulness practices are for everybody. I’d love to work together to find exactly what you need in this moment.
Benefits of Mindfulness (Taken from https://www.mindfulschools.org/about-mindfulness/research-on-mindfulness)
Scholarly research finds that mindfulness practice decreases stress and anxiety, increases attention, improves interpersonal relationships, strengthens compassion, and confers a host of other benefits.
The amygdala is activated when detecting and reacting to emotions including difficult or strong emotions such as fear. Following sessions of mindfulness training, this part of the brain may be less activated.
The hippocampus is critical to learning and memory and helps regulate the amygdala. The hippocampus is more activated, and produces more gray matter density following mindfulness training.
The prefrontal cortex is most associated with maturity, including regulating emotions and behaviors and making wise decisions. This part of the brain is more activated and developed following mindfulness training.
